Ground Hog Pride in Unadilla

groundhogcar

If any town wants to mount a challenge to Punxsutawney for having a
groundhog to hang its hat on, it's Unadilla, Neb.

Groundhog Day festivities become a major civic fundraiser and the town's
population more than doubles at the height of the celebration, according
to Bob Brandt, a charter organizer.

Both exhibits run through March 6.

The museum's Brown Bag series begins Tuesday, February 9, with a program by Dan Reis on Photo Conservation.

crazymom
Conestoga Public School was cancelled on January 25th primarily due to the visibility and condition of rural roads.  I think this makes the 8th day that Conestoga has been cancelled this year!  All I can say is . . . the children are loving it!
Makeup dates needed due to weather / water issues are currently scheduled as follows:   Feb. 8, Feb 22, March 12, and March 22.

Save Your Recyclables!

thingstorecycle

In March, Union will begin hosting a multi-stream recycling trailer in the village on a monthly basis.  Union hopes to expand on the efforts and has applied for a grant to provide individual recycling bins for every residence in the Village. These individual recycling bins would make recycling extremely convenient for all residents, as recyclable items can be collected throughout the month at home (no need for sorting!!) and then transferred to the recycling trailer when it is in town.  There will be a calendar printed indicating where the recycling trailers will be at all times, as well as a list of acceptable recyclable items.  Please look for more information coming soon on how you can help Union "go green."

Start collecting your household recyclable items NOW!  Items that can be recycled are: 1) paper, 2) aluminum and steel/tin cans and 3) plastics items, food containers, reusable food storage containers, etc.  And remember, there is no need to sort because all of the recyclable material is placed into the same recycling trailer!

Valentine's Day at the Lofte

valentineslofte

Let's face it, sometimes we need a little help in the romance department.  Well, the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley has taken steps to create an enjoyable evening for singles, sweethearts and even old married folks!

On Saturday, February 13th, the Lofte is holding a special Sweetheart Event to celebrate Valentine's Day.  The doors will open at 6:30pm.  Wine tastings will be provided by Slattery Vintage Estates
of Nehawka.  You can purchase a tasting, a glass, or buy a bottle of your favorite to share with friends!  A variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres will be on-hand and later, the instrumental group, "Skylark" will take the stage.  New this year, Krambeck Photography will be present for professional photo opportunities.  Wine, appetizers, dancing, photo opps; the only ingredients missing are you and your date!

Tickets to this event are $20 per person.  Due to liquor license requirements, wine tastings will be priced separately at the door.   Advanced reservations are not required, but are strongly suggested.  For more information or to purchase tickets, please call the Lofte Box Office at (402) 234-2553.  You may also visit their website www.Lofte.com.

Check out Louisville's Weekly Online Newsletter

Paula Anderson - Editor Louisville Nebraska

Greetings from Louisville, Nebraska!  My husband of one year, Derek, and I live in Louisville and love it!  Derek teaches geography and economics at Omaha Central in Omaha, while I commute four blocks to Louisville where I teach senior composition, and middle school reading and language arts.  In addition, I am the yearbook adviser for our school and perform various other “small-school” roles as they emerge.  I am almost finished with my master’s degree in English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and I am also very involved with the Nebraska Writing Project.  As you can probably expect, I enjoy reading (lots of young adult novels during the school year and senior papers!) and writing.  I grew up on a farm near Eagle, NE and attended Elmwood-Murdock High School; then, I ventured seven hours from home to Chadron, Nebraska where I completed my bachelor’s degree.  After living and teaching in Omaha and South Dakota, I can now call the lovely town of Louisville my home for the past four years.

Thanks for reading this week's newsletter.  Please let me know if you have any information you would like to add next time!  Have a great week - Mindy
