Union Weekend Events Recap

Union United is happy to report that this weekend's events were a great success!!
During our fall Clean Up and Green Up event we were again able to completely
fill the dumpster with trash, much of which came from an old, dilapidated shed
near the park that we were given permission to tear down. Thanks so much to Paul
Vidlak, Mike Hoerman, Dave Chipman,Chris Keene and Jim Burbee for their hard work on this
project! Be sure to drive by to see how nice it looks! We also removed a couple
small trailers of metal for recycling as well as 1 vehicle (Thanks Mark!)
With the help of Metech Recycling, Union residents saved over 300 pounds
of electronic waste (computers, tvs, and other small electronics) from polluting
our landfills. Also, thanks to a grant from the Sarpy/Cass County Health Department and partnership with TO Haas of Lincoln, we were able to offer free tire removal/ recycling to Union residents. This was an amazing success, collecting over 150 tires that will be recycled responsibly and reused in construction and many other projects!
Thanks again to the volunteers, especially Union and Nebraska City youth who
helped with the litter clean up of the 3-mile stretch of Highway 34 that Union
United has adopted. If you haven't had a chance to see our sign, check it out
just west of town.
And finally, perhaps our biggest success of the weekend, thanks so much to Patti
and Butch Hardbarger, Ruth and Max Hollar, Brittany Kurtzer, and Marcy Wagner
for their organization and hard work at the Henderson auction selling
concessions. Their efforts raised almost $900 for Union United. Your dedication
to our projects is invaluable! And special thanks to the Henderson's for giving
Union United this opportunity.
So as you can see, we have a lot to be proud of. Just a reminder that there will
be no Union United meeting this Thursday, but we will meet again next week
(Sept. 23) at the ALA Hall, 7:00pm to continue with our planning for the park
gazebo and landscaping.
Thanks again to everyone who came out to volunteer and support us this weekend.
We couldn't do this without you!!

First Baptist's Adventurers -
Having fun learning about God!

Elementary age children have fun learning about God on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30, starting this Wednesday, September 15th, at First Baptist Church. We start with songs and prayer, and then divide into older and younger classes for Bible study. Parents are encouraged to attend the first class!
Phyllis Burbee teaches grades 4 through 6 on how to be a disciple of Jesus. Jim Burbee and Pastor Jim Cummings have a craft and Bible story for grades 1 through 3.
The evening ends with cookies and punch. We are happy to have more kids join us!

At the Weeping Water Fall Festival Craft Fair!

To celebrate the beginning of fall season, the Otoe County Genealogical Society will host a "Fall Foliage Wyuka Tour" at 6:00pm on October 14th at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City. Guests can enjoy the beauty of Nebraska's oldest public cemetery while Wyuka Cemetery historian, Don Hegr, guides them on a 2-hour tour of the cemetery's grounds. Don will cover not only the history of this prestigious cemetery, but will also share stories about some of Wyuka's prominent (and not so prominent) residents that are buried there as well. In addition, Wyuka Cemetery's book, "Wyuka A place of rest; Nebraska City's Pioneer Cemetery", will be available for purchase before and after the tour.
