A.   DECISION ON HOW TO HANDLE THE “PUBLISHING” OF MEETING MINUTES. REFERENCE ORDINANCE AND MOTION TO AMMEND AS NECESSARY.

The newley named "Union United" group is planning to move around the planters on Main Street, scrape & repaint them (white) and then plant them with a variety of flowers. This project will likely take place on a couple of Saturday mornings or afternoons, with scraping & painting on one project day and then planting on another. We can use both financial support as well as physical labor support (we have some volunteers already & John Pfahl and Ruth and Max Hollar have donated white paint). "The Otoe County Genealogical Society will host it's 2nd annual 'Walk Through Wyuka' tour at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City on May 13th at 7:00 pm. Wyuka Cemetery historian, Don Hegr, will be our tour guide and will guide us through the many historical internments in Nebraska's oldest public cemetery. Don's tour will cover the history of the cemetery, and will also showcase numerous graves of Nebraska City's prominent (and sometimes not so prominent) people that are buried within the cemetery. If you would like to join us on this tour, please meet at the maintenance shed inside the cemetery at 7:00 pm. There will be someone at the main entrance of the cemetery to guide you once you arrive, and parking will be on the south side of the maintenance shed."

The Blackwood Brothers have recorded over 200 albums and toured in 47 countries. They have won eight Grammy Awards and 6 Dove Awards. Over the years, the Blackwood Brothers have been guests on the Barbara Mandrell Show, Hee-Haw, and The Grand Old Opry. They have sung with Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner, Tennessee Ernie Ford and many more. They were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Nashville in 1998. The group now consists of Jimmy Blackwood, Wayne Little, Randy Byrd and Brad White.

The original Blackwood Brothers formed in 1934 in Choctaw County, Mississippi. In 1954 the quartet performed on the “Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts” show on television. Two weeks after winning the competition, two of the original Blackwood brothers, R.W. and Bill Lyles, were both killed in a plane crash in Alabama. The surviving Blackwoods regrouped, adding younger brother Cecil to sing baritone and J.D. Sumner singing bass.

Elvis Presley loved gospel music and attended many of the Blackwood concerts at the Ellis Auditorium in Memphis. When his mother, Gladys Presley, died in 1958, Elvis and his father asked the Blackwoods to sing at her funeral.

Tickets for this event are $16. Reservations are not required, but are strongly suggested. When the Lofte last hosted The Blackwood Brothers in 2008, the event was completely sold-out. There is new activity on Eldora Ave. in Weeping Water. Grandpa Snazzy's is moving to 221 West Eldora. William M Cover II and Kathryn Cover have purchased the 1903 Davis Block building and are moving Grandpa Snazzy's from its old location above Fusselman Wymore.

The new space is being extensively remodeled and they are working hard on recreating the historic aspects of the building. The costume rental portion of the business is already running in the new space and the retail will be opening soon. "We are planning a grand opening celebration of the retail for this years Limestone Days, but if we are ready sooner we will open up the retail. We are very excited about our new space and the ability to be on main street."

The retail is designed to mimic an old fashioned general store, Wood fixtures to set off wares of bulk candy and coffees, sewing needs, a gentleman’s corner and more. Keep an eye out for the retail opening and do not forget if you need costumes we are there Tue-Fri 1:30-5 and Sat 10:00-2:00.
