BILLIE JOE BROWN:
Sadly, we’ve lost another longtime resident of Union. Billie Joe Brown was 75 years old when he lost his battle with prostrate cancer on Feb 3, 2005.
Bill was born Jan 9, 1930 in Stockton, MO, to parents Wilburn & Estel Brown. He moved to Union in 1942 where he remained until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Loretta Jean, who he married Dec 4, 1949, grandson Nathan Brown, & son Frank.
Bill was extremely proud to be from Union & to be a part of Union #1140. He worked in construction building the power plants located in Brownville & Nebraska City. After the plants were completed, he decided to start his own trash business in the 1970s. Bill was always teased about bringing home more trash than he got rid of. As a matter of fact, his daughter-in-law remembers the time she threw away a bag of clothes & Bill found them, brought them to her stating that he found some clothes that would fit her children. Bill retired in the 1990s to enjoy his wife, children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. His greatest loves were his wife & family.
Bill left behind son Robert & his wife Gaille from Union & son Rick & his wife Kay from Weeping Water. His grandchildren from son Frank are Sandy Fidler & Danny Brown both from Omaha; son Robert is Sheli Fletcher, Weeping Water, Andy Joe & Bobby, Union; & son Rick’s children are Danelle & Justin, Weeping Water. Bill’s great grandchildren are Michael Housh, Randy, Trey, & Jayden Fletcher, Jacob, Jace, Trevor & Madison Brown, Lewis & Frankie Fidler, Karah Brown. And brother Roger from Union & sister Phyllis Gannaway also from Union.
Some of the stories about Bill include his love of all football; if there was a game on he was watching it. He also loved to fish, to tell a good joke & watch horseracing. And was famous for two things, tons & tons of tomatoes, which he shared with anyone that wanted them & he was known as Grandpa Brown & always, had suckers for all the neighborhood children.
If he were here, he would have been surprised at the 200 people that attended his funeral & celebrated his life. Bill’s family would like to extend their appreciation to everyone that attended & for all that was donated.
