NEBRASKA CITY STUDENTS:

One of the requirements of the high school students going to the Nebraska City High School is to perform 30 hours of community service. The village has cleared it with the principal, Mr. Adler, that the students can do their community service here in town. The park committee needs your help. The flowerbeds and boxes need to be maintained, the equipment needs paint, a split rail fence needs to be put in, the community picnic will need help with the children’s games etc.. So please consider helping out our parks & get in contact with Jean Ziegelbein, Park Chairman, or the village clerk. Or there are several senior citizens in town that could use your help with lawn care, cleaning, or just some companionship. Get in contact with the village clerk & she’ll point you in the right direction.

EASTER EGG HUNT:

Don’t forget that the American Legion Auxiliary’s Easter Egg hunt is this coming Saturday, April 10th! Just come to the park (behind the bank) at 1:00 p.m. with your basket, bag, or whatever you want to carry your goodies in.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH:

The first neighborhood watch meeting was held on Thursday, March 25, 2004. We were very disappointed as to the lack of response. The surveys that were filled out & sent in were in favor & people even said they would be willing to participate. Maybe the weather, or folks just forgot. We will try one more time to try to get the village residents involved in the neighborhood program. We need to help our community & ourselves! Maybe you just need to see the stats in print. In 2003, the Cass County Sheriff’s office received a staggering number of calls ranging from vandalism to drugs to felony theft in the county! Here are some examples:
295 drug related calls, 327 drug related citations, 36 meth dumpsites, 6 meth labs in operation, etc. The new date will be posted. Please take the time to get involved. POC is Alex Braszko.

TIDBITS:

Many thanks to Allan Keene. He donated the large flag hanging on the flagpole at the fire station to the village. We really appreciate it!

We’ve sent out several letters to homeowners about junk vehicles & other items on their property that we wanted to know what their plans were. Many of you got rid of the items and/or cleaned up the areas. We just wanted you to know that we appreciate your hard work. The village is looking a lot better due to your efforts, so again, thank you very much.
