The Union Fire & Rescue Department is hosting a costume party on Halloween at 8 pm at Thumann’s Tavern & Grille. Plan on attending and using your imagination to earn prizes for several categories such as best costume, most original etc.. It should be an evening of great fun, hope to see you there! CHILDREN’S HALLOWEEN PARTY: It’s Halloween time again and this year Union Fire & Rescue will be hosting a children’s “Things That Go Bump In The Night” celebration at the Union Park pavilion. Plan on attending October 18th at 8 pm. An old-fashioned wiener roast and games with food provided. There will also be a costume contest, and coloring contest for children ages 3-14. Pages for the coloring contest can be picked up at the lobby of the post office. Entries must be in by October 17th @ 12:00 pm. Sounds like a really fun party! TRAINING: EMT training classes will be held at the fire station on October 21 at 6:30 pm. Also, there is still room for anyone interested in the CPR classes scheduled to start on October 27 at 6:30 pm. Please contact the village clerk at 263-3865 for more information. SOLICITING: Lately, there have been a lot of salespeople around the village. For your information, the village does have an ordinance, which states that solicitors must have a permit issued by the village clerk to go door to door. This does not pertain to children that are fundraising for school. The next time a salesperson comes to your door, ask for their permit and identification. VANDALISM: Recently, we have been the victims of a vandal. Every time someone hangs a notice or announcement on the bulletin board at the post office, a coward is writing rude or vulgar words on the flyers. Also, that same person is tacking items that several residents find vulgar on the bulletin board. For that person, if you continue, we will lose that very important means of communication. Already, the decision was made to stop posting very important village information, which includes meeting minutes, cleanup notices, status on the sewer system, etc.. If that person has a problem with the village board, come to the next meeting and bring your concerns, quit destroying property. FIRE & RESCUE PERSONNEL: We would like to honor the men and women that volunteer their time for our benefit. They provide a service to the community that is immeasurable and for that thank you. Here is a list of those selfless individuals, please take a moment to tell them how much they are appreciated: William Bescheinen, Fire Chief; Tony Tellez, President; Wayne Ackley, Mark Eddy, Dale Grundman, Larry Hathaway, Allan Keene, Delbert Keene*, Frank Swanson, Butch Obermeyer, Chad Keene, Jeff Ruby, Pam Johnson*, Adam Bennett, Carmen Thorne*, Gaile Brown*, Robert Brown*, Bobby Brown, Sarah Renken*, Greg Thumann*, Teri Tiltin*, Treasurer/secretary; Rob Kennedy*, Vice-president; Jim Loring, Deb Loring*, Alex Braszko*, Jessie Braszko*, Steve Heyen*, Sarah Ludlow*, Bryson Heim*, Frankie Williams*, DeeDee Brazzle**, Cass Crook and Nolan Bennett.
